High Frequency Surface Wave Radars
High Frequency Surface Wave Radars (HFSWR) are a new family of HF Over-The-Horizon radars designed for both Civil and Military applications. By utilizing the HF surface wave propagation effect, HFSWR can provide unique low level target detection and tracking capability at extended ranges that are unavailable to microwave systems. HFSWR technology delivers cost effective solutions to the rapidly growing need for wide area maritime surveillance. Those systems incorporate a number of technological innovations for enhanced availability of accurate information with rapid updates. This reduces the need for costly air and sea patrols. HFSWR are capable of 120؛ azimuth coverage over long ranges in excess of 100NM.
The modular design can be expanded to cover an entire national coastline, while its varied applications can encompass civil maritime surveillance, EEZ monitoring, low and high-level air defense, and coordination of civil assets.
EG&G Middle East and AMS (UK) have started a dialogue for cooperation in November 2004 to address any possible requirements for HFSWR in Saudi Arabia. Vessel Traffic Management Systems
EG&G Middle East provides Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) incorporating management, command and control functions that are open and can utilize virtually any sensor or subsystem information. The VTMS system allows for the integration of various sensors, such as surveillance radars, AIS systems, metrological sensors and TV/IR cameras. Additionally, it can be equipped with interfaces to other equipment such as Sonar systems, ESM/DF systems, and various types of digital data links. The system’s software offers various functionalities such as electronic charting, customizable overlays, fused system level tracks (from Radar, AIS, etc…) as well as a track history database.
The system’s kernel provides support for operations such as surveillance, identification tasks, SAR, policing activities and pollution control. The system can also be easily adapted to customer specific requirements due to its flexible and modular system design.
